This investment quantifies the everyday benefits of on-farm biosecurity practices so that recommendations can be made on how to incentivise vegetable and melon growers to adopt appropriate biosecurity measures.
This investment is delivering a national coordinated bee-pest surveillance program to help safeguard honey-bee and pollinator-dependent industries in Australia.
This project aims to strengthen biosecurity preparedness and response across Australia’s melon industry by developing a tailored Biosecurity Strategy and Action Plan. Led by Melons Australia, the initiative willidentify high-risk exotic pests and pathogens, assess current management practices, and deliver targeted training and resources to growers, agronomists, and field staff. The strategy will align with existing pest and crop management efforts and build on the industry’s experience with incursions such as CGMMV and Varroa mite.
The regulatory support and response coordination project aims to provide Australian horticultural industries support to navigate complex domestic and international pesticide regulations. The project supports industry sustainability by safeguarding access to essential plant protection products, enabling stakeholders to develop effective response strategies and make informed investment decisions.
This investment is improving the melon industry’s capability to reduce the impacts of soilborne fungal diseases through improved knowledge and access to better management practices. The goal is to reduce crop losses by adopting improved and effective soilborne disease mitigation and management strategies.
Through this project, levy funds and Australian Government contributions are used to submit renewals and applications for minor use permits for the melon industry as required. These submissions are prepared and submitted to the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA).
