AUSTRALIAN MELON ASSOCIATION

Melons Australia (the Australian Melon Association) is the peak industry body for the melon industry in Australia. The Australian melon industry consists of approximately 140 growers, producing in excess of 200,000 tonnes of melons annually across an area of around 8,500 hectares. This production level in 2022/23 saw 226,022 tonnes of melons produced with a gross value of production (GVP) of $248.2million. Watermelons constituted 63% of this value at $158.3million and muskmelons (including rockmelon, honeydew and other specialty varieties) were valued at $89.9million. Melons are grown 12 months of the year across Australia, in every mainland State and in the Northern Territory.

Membership also includes wholesalers, service providers, marketers, consultants, and researchers.

Melons Australia was founded with the objectives of promoting and coordinating all aspects of the industry, to encourage free exchange of ideas and information and to foster goodwill among the industry. The melon industry is working together to build a successful future for the Australian melon growers by:

  • Delivering product that lives up to the expectations of consumers Innovation that creates improved products and operating systems
  • Engaging the key retailers with industry strategies
  • All levels of industry supply chains working together
  • Adequate resourcing of action to implement industry priorities.
