Young Horties isn’t just about networking—it’s about building a vibrant, supportive community for the future of Australian horticulture. One of the most popular initiatives so far is the "Lunch with a Legend" webinar series. These online sessions give members the chance to hear directly from respected industry leaders about their career journeys and lessons learned along the way. Face-to-face events have also already been held in Brisbane and Loxton, with more on the calendar around Australia soon.
Founded in 2025, Young Horties is the brainchild of Ebony Faichney and Emily Hoang, who met through their shared passion for connecting others in the industry. A simple conversation was had about why there wasn’t a professional group for young people in hort? While similar networks exist in the cattle and grain industries, horticulture had a gap—and these two were ready to fill it. With Ebony’s background in extension and Emily from supply chains and event management, the two joined forces and haven’t looked back.
Today, Young Horties has over 120 members from across Australia, working in roles that span everything from farming, research, agronomy, marketing, and policy. The founding committee includes Emily, Ebony, Abby Templeton, Amberley Sprauge, Iain MacLennan, Peter Jealous and Thea Walker—a diverse team with a shared goal of creating space for the next generation of horticultural leaders.
