Biosecurity signs

The team from Melons Australia recently visited melon growers in Bundaberg to discuss industry issues in general but primarily to discuss biosecurity concerns and provide growers with tools to assist with their on farm management of biosecurity risks.

This included the provision of biosecurity ute kits which contained footwear and tyre cleaning utensils, illustrated fact sheets for both exotic and endemic pests and diseases of melons, equipment to assist in surveillance for pests and diseases including a mobile phone lens, flagging tape and sampling equipment such as gloves and zip lock bags.

Growers were also provided with biosecurity signage and assistance in automating biosecurity processes such as visitor registers.  This program will be rolled out across all melon growing regions throughout Australia between now and March 2023.

It was great to catch-up with our Bundaberg Melon community including:

Swanridge farms, Marto Farms, W&L Family Farms. Killer Family Holdings, MG & GJ Piper.
